4. Elakala to Yellow Birch Trail. Elakala to Yellow Birch Trail is a nice little route for more experienced hikers. Elakala Falls is actually a series of 4 distinct waterfalls on Shays Run as it descends into Blackwater Canyon. Elakala Falls #1, pictured above, is easy to reach by a short trail and is usually what people are referring to when they speak of Elakala Falls.

Elakala Falls is a series of 4 falls ranging in height from 40 feet to 15, though the first one is the only accessible by trail. The remaining three are difficult to reach and should only be tried by experience hikers. At the height of the season, Elakala Falls Trail is less crowded than the Blackwater Falls trails. This out and back trail features a river, tons of beautiful nature, and bird-watching hotspots.

Elakala Falls is technically a series of four waterfalls; however, the first waterfall is the only one you can see from this trail and is 35 feet tall.
